Selective Variant Media Filtering
This feature allows you to enable variant media filtering on selected products only, rather than applying it globally to all products.
How It Works
The product-specific filtering feature works by combining two settings:
Variant Image Filtering: The main filtering option (Option 1, Option 2, Option 3)
Product Selection: A product picker to choose specific products for filtering
Setup Instructions
1. Enable Variant Image Filtering
In your theme customizer:
- Go to the Product page section
- Find "Option name" and select your desired option (e.g., "Option 1" for color)
- Select specific products using the "Select products" picker (optional)
- Save your changes
2. Product Selection Methods
You have two ways to enable filtering for specific products:
Method A: Product Picker (Recommended)
- Use the product picker in theme settings to select up to 50 products
- More intuitive and easier to manage
- No need to remember tag names
Method B: Product Tags
- Add the tag
variant_filtering_enabledto products in Shopify Admin - Useful for bulk operations or when you have many products
- Works as a fallback if no products are selected in the picker
3. Configure Product Images
For each tagged product:
Variant-specific images: Set the
alt text to match the variant option valueRed variant images: Set alt text to "Red"
Blue variant images: Set alt text to "Blue"
Large size images: Set alt text to "Large" (if filtering by size)
General product images: Set alt text to
always_display or leave blank
